Made to Last is a series of artwork turning plastic trash into gold. Literally.  Found single-use plastic is gilded with 23 Kt gold leaf.  Gold has long been a symbol for the sacred and valuable.  Like plastic, it’s shiny, malleable, and doesn’t break down.  Yet gold we value, and plastic we discard after seconds of use.  The artwork is meant to highlight the absurdity of this, and increase mindfulness of our wasteful plastic habits. These artworks are the inspiration for my latest series Aquaria of the Plastocene.
